Sifu Bill McKayI suppose that I have been training in Martial Arts for the best part of 36 years but apart from Judo as a teenager in the mid to late 60's, and boxing in the RAF in the early 70's I really started oriental Martial Arts training seriously in 1977 from which point I have continued training enthusiastically, with little interruption, until the present day.

The first ten years of training included Kook Sul Won, an excellent Korean Martial Art as well as Shotokan and Wado Ryu Karate both in the UK and Germany whilst stationed in Berlin.

I started to train in the Wing Chun style in 1987 with Sifu Harry Cannon, who started his training with Alan Lamb in the UK and thereafter as an instructor under Sifu Samuel Kwok, and I have remained in the Ip Chun lineage throughout my WC training.

Sifu Cannon and I maintained our contact even when service postings hindered training with him.
During these times I travelled widely in the UK, taking lessons from most of the leading Wing Chun Sifus, including an enjoyable four year period as an instructor in Sifu Shaun Rawcliffe's, Midlands Wing Chun Kuen organisation.

I have explored other systems as they've appeared on the Martial Arts scene and found some were effective and very enjoyable to train. However, the underlying simplicity of the Wing Chun system continues to be the system which most suits my physical and mental approach to the Martial Arts.

The Somerset Wing Chun Kung Fu was formed with the objective of offering quality training in traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu to students in the Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and Somerset area of the UK.

I maintain contact and regularly train with my original Sifu as a member of Sifu Cannon's International Association of Wing Chun Kung Fu which encompasses civilian and military WC clubs training mainly in British military theatres of operations.
